  1. Police: Led the effort to fund 100 more police officers in FY 07.
  2. Liquor Licenses: Barred applicants with as little as 10% ownership from getting a liquor license if they owe any amount to the District Government.
  3. Police: Led the effort in Adams Morgan for BID to hire off duty police officers.
  4. Police: Led the effort to open and fund the police substation at 750 Park Road which now has nearly 100 officers stationed there. There are but 4 such substations in DC.
  5. Community Involvement: Established the Latino Task Force at 18th and Columbia.
  6. Police: Consolidated all of Ward One into a single police district (3D). Previously it had been split in half at Harvard between 3D and 4D (the latter headquartered on the 6000 block of GA).
  7. Police: Introduced legislation to use surplus funds to strengthen neighborhood policing.
  8. Police: Announced a plan to increase police deployment in Adams Morgan in the late-night hours on weekends when bars in that neighborhood close.
  9. Night Clubs: Led the effort to close nightclubs with a track record of violence (such as Club U).
  10. ABC Board: Introduced legislation that would authorize the ability to immediately and summarily revoke, suspend or restrict a license to sell alcoholic beverages, pending a formal hearing of the ABC board, when there are reasonable grounds to conclude the operations of the licensee present an imminent danger to the health and safety of the public.
  11. Security Guards: Introduced legislation that increased mandatory training of security guards from zero to forty hours, require yearly refresher training, prevent security companies from putting an officer on a post before an FBI background check, and provide whistle-blower protections for officers who report unsafe conditions.
  12. Personal Touch: Always arrive on the scene when there is a fatality due to violence.
  13. ABC Board: Funded four new liquor-establishment inspectors and urged the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to be more aggressive in revoking licenses held by clubs with repeat violence.
  14. Police: Voted for legislation directing that 60% of police be assigned to PSAs.
  15. Police: Held hearings on police efforts to recruit more minorities, and increase the number of minorities on the force.
  16. Safety & Community: Worked with neighbors to block the opening of an offender halfway house in Adams Morgan across the street from an elementary school.
  17. Safety & Community: Ensured that Ward One support its fair share of convicted felons halfway houses’ beds by reducing their number from 62 to 13 on Park Road. Prior to this effort, Ward One was one of only three wards that had such facilities.
  18. Police: Led efforts to ensure a sustained police response to solve the recent spate of shootings.
  19. Community Involvement: Helped organize Orange Hat patrols and revitalized volunteer police reserve programs.

  21. Safety & Community: Co-introduced legislation that prohibits the transport of large shipments of extremely hazardous materials within 2.2 miles of the United States Capitol unless the transporter has obtained an authorizing permit from DDOT recognizing that there is no practical alternative route.
