A Senior Wellness Center is coming to Georgia Avenue! This $5.3-million project is due to open in 2008.
Councilmember Graham has worked on acquiring the property and the subsequent public use since he took office in 1999. The process involved a tax sale and a bankruptcy proceeding, but the District Government finally received the title in 2004.
Location: 3531 Georgia Avenue (at Newton Place)
Size: 10,000 square feet
Ecology: Will meet Green Building standards (possibly at Silver level).
Partners: DC Office on Aging, DC Commission on Aging, DC Office of Property Management, DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs
The latest: a Groundbreaking ceremony was held on June 15 at 2:30pm. The Office of Property Management submitted the proposal for bids on November 29 and DCRA has issued the building permits.
