On February 9, 2007 Councilmember Jim Graham celebrated 30 years of sobriety at the Reeves Club at 14th and V Streets, NW. Mayor Adrian Fenty presented the Councilmember with an anniversary coin and presented a proclamation to declare February 9th “Jim Graham Day” in the District of Columbia.
“I am very proud of this achievement,” said Councilmember Graham.
Joining Councilmember Graham and Mayor Adrian Fenty in the picture below are Chairman Vincent Gray, WMATA General Manager John B. Catoe, and Deputy Chief of Staff Calvin Woodland. “Tonight I am joined by my friends and colleagues,” said Councilmember Graham. “Thank you all for joining me to celebrate this special day.”
Councilmember Graham has been a strong advocate for the treatment and prevention of alcohol and drug dependence. While on the Council, Councilmember Graham has co-introduced legislation to give residents free access to immediate treatment for drug addiction and alcoholism, led efforts to fund more ABRA inspectors and has introduced legislation to impose tougher penalties on businesses that sell alcohol to minors. He is also the Chairman of the Committee on Public Works and Environment, which includes oversight of the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration.
