Graham Supports Ledecky/Soros Bid to Buy Nationals

Washington, DC – Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward One) today sent a letter to Baseball Commissioner Allan “Bud” Selig, urging that the team led by Jonathan Ledecky and George Soros be given top consideration in its bid to buy the Washington Nationals.

Major League Baseball has investigated all of the bids it is considering, and is now trying to determine which bidder has substantial community support in the District.

“Mr. Ledecky indicated in his bid that he planned to run the team as a community trust,” said Councilmember Graham in the letter, “and pledged to return a significant portion of the profits from the team to be used in such a way that the whole city will benefit from having a team in Washington.”

“The taxpayers of Washington are being asked to make major sacrifices to have baseball here,” the letter continues, “and I believe Jonathan Ledecky will be the kind of owner we can work with here at the Council.”
