Washington, DC – A bankruptcy court judge has ordered Kili’s Kafe and Lounge to leave its space at 2009 Eighth Street, NW, effective today.
Neighbors have been witness to a series of violent crimes in and around the club. The latest was a fatal shooting early Sunday morning about a block away, with Kili’s security personnel on the scene.
“This nightclub has been the source of violence in our community,” said Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward One). “This order ending the Kili’s lease on its property would restore peace and quiet to our neighborhood.”
The club was temporarily closed in March when the DC Office of Tax and Revenue revoked its tax certificate. Its liquor license is currently subject to neighborhood protest.
Judge S. Martin Teel, Jr. issued the ruling in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Columbia. The case number is 05-01041.
