Washington, DC – Councilmembers Jim Graham (D-Ward One) and Adrian Fenty (D-Ward Four) today introduced a resolution opposing development plans at the Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH).
“This is a big, open federal enclave right up against a residential neighborhood in my ward,” said Councilmember Graham. “When we’re looking at buildings up to 100 feet tall, the neighbors have it exactly right. The plan needs to be revised to fit into the surrounding area better.”
The Council resolution raises air and noise pollution, traffic, and the loss of green space as concerns with the draft master plan for AFRH. The plan calls for development on approximately 130 of the AFRH’s 272 acres and is under consideration by the National Capital Planning Commission and the D.C. Historic Preservation Review Board.
