Washington DC Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward One) praised Mayor Adrian Fenty today for proposing to fund arts and community-based programs in Ward One.
The Mayor has clearly made his mark, said Councilmember Graham. I am pleased to see funding for the arts, community festivals, and our local parks in Ward One.
In consultation with Councilmember Graham, Mayor Fenty proposes funding for:
- Dance Institute of Washington
- Duke Ellington Jazz Festival
- ROOT (Reaching Out to Others Together)
In addition, there is a total of $2.5 million mainly for the reconstruction of Girard Park (14th and Girard St, NW), Justice Park and the triangle park near the Cavalier Apartments (14th and Oak St, NW).
Other projects may be identified in the budget process. There is substantial funding also proposed for new police hires, the New Community at Park Morton, and others to be discussed in a subsequent message.
