Washington, DC – At long last, work will begin to renovate H.D. Cooke Elementary School.
While the school has been sitting empty for two years, students have been bused to another facility across the Ward. Meanwhile, “not a hammer has been lifted to renovate the school,” says Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward One).
“A broken bureaucracy was keeping the work from going forward,” says Councilmember Graham. “The money was always there.”
Council Chairman Vincent Gray (D-At Large) worked with Councilmember Graham to put a stop to the delay. A construction contract was recently approved by the Council and work is expected to begin shortly.
“Finally,” says Councilmember Graham, “there is a new era for our school facilities.”
