Graham to Present Flags Flown Over Capitol to Ward One Schools

Washington, DC – Thanks to the efforts of Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward One), six schools in Ward One will receive flags flown in their honor over the Nation’s Capitol. Flag raising ceremonies will be held over the next several weeks at the schools. Students, teachers, and school administrators will thank Councilmember Graham for his generous gift. The flags will also be raised for the first time since being flown above the Capitol.
“I am extremely proud of the schools in Ward One,” said Councilmember Graham. “It is an honor to have flags that were once flown above the United States Capitol to now be flown above our schools in Ward One.”
The flags will be presented with a certificate of authenticty, signed by the Acting Architect of the Capitol, Stephen T. Ayers.
The dates and times of the flag raising ceremonies are:
- Parkview Elementary
Thursday, May 31, 1pm
- Bruce Monroe Elementary
Friday, June 1, 1pm
- Garnet Patterson Middle School
Monday, June 4, 1pm
- Tubman Elementary
Friday, June 8, 1pm
- Gage-Eckington Elementary
