Washington, DC: Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward One) will hold a public roundtable on the status of the public water main system in District neighborhoods on Thursday, October 4, 2007.
In the early morning of October 1, 2007, a four-alarm fire tore through the Avalon condominium building at 2627 Adams Mill Rd, NW in Adams Morgan. Fire officials have since confirmed that a lack of water pressure and volume affected their ability to combat the fire. The purpose of the public roundtable is to determine the status of WASA’s replacement of the District’s aging water main system and to determine the nature of the problem faced by the fire department.
“There are several questions left to be answered,” said Councilmember Graham. “WASA clearly needs to re-evaluate their priorities.”
Dennis L. Rubin, Chief of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Jerry N. Johnson, WASA General Manager, and Robin B. Martin, WASA Chairman and Principal Member, will testify at the public roundtable.
The public roundtable will be held in room 120 of the historic John A. Wilson Building at 2pm.
