Thanksgiving Baskets to Be Distributed to Ward One Families

Washington, DC: Hundreds of families in Ward One will enjoy a Thanksgiving meal this year thanks to the efforts of Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward One).

Councilmember Graham partnered with Mayor Adrian Fenty (D), Director Michael Kelly, DC Housing Authority, and the SHARE Food Network to give a Thanksgiving basket to residents in the Kelly Miller and LeDroit Park apartments.

The apartments provide housing for low-income residents and are run by the DC Housing Authority.

“The need is very great in Ward One,” said Councilmember Graham, “when one in four of the residents have incomes below the federal poverty level. We are doing all we can.”

The baskets will include a turkey, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green beans, stuffing mix, and a pie for dessert.

For the past nine years, Councilmember Graham has distributed gift cards to senior and low-income residents throughout the Ward.

The baskets will be distributed on Monday, November 19 at the LeDroit Park Apartments.
