Washington, DC: Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward One) announced his support for the Greater Washington Area Boys and Girls Club today, but remains opposed to announced “re-development” plans at Clubhouse #10.
The Greater Washington Area Boys and Girls Club is proposing to “re-develop” the Boys and Girls Clubhouse #10, along with three others across the District.
“I remain a strong supporter of the Boys and Girls Club,” said Councilmember Graham, “but the development of this site should be taken off the table because I share the reservations of parents, club users, and other stakeholders.”
Over the last two years, Councilmember Graham has secured $1 million for the Boys and Girls Clubhouse #10, located at 14th and Clifton Streets, NW. Graham is prepared to author additional funding to support programs and staffing improvements.
The Boys and Girls Club is a safe location for youth and families. In recent weeks, there have been many shots fired within blocks of Clubhouse #10, which is near the epicenter of current gang feuds.
